Personal Data Protection Act, a bill to amend and update it

On September 20, 2018, the Executive Power sent to Congress for its treatment a bill to amend the Act on the Protection of Personal Data that, if approved, would replace Act # 25,326 that governs the matter since 2000 and which should be adapted to the current reality and technology.

The most significant change is the elimination of the object of the law of the mention of databases, that is, the new law refers to the protection of personal data regardless of whether they are located in a database or not.

The protection of data relating to legal persons is also deleted, as well as the obligation to register databases. The new standard seeks to align national regulations with the recent European regulations Regulation (EU) 2016/679.
